Welcome to the PUB

Friends:

I want to start a blog for public educators by public educators. Public educators are at the same time among the most respected and most disrespected professionals in our society. We need to take care of ourselves and to stand up for ourselves. What do you think?

Peace.

Hi there! I just wrote a novel, and when I pushed return, I lost it!!! I guess those thoughts will go unrecorded for eternity....

As for standing up for ourselves, I agree, but in this educational climate, it will always appear that we are being self-centered...Everyone has been a consumer of education, but those not a part of it professionally, never saw the work that went in behind the scenes. Thus, unless we find a way to expose the masses to this side of education in a personal way, it will be hard to spread understanding of our need to stand up for ourselves..
WOW, my other comment was SO much more articulate....

Karen, you're always articulate.

As for educating the "masses", I envision a Network (70s movie) moment in which all educators step into the streets and yell, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" pardon me if the quote is not exact.

My fantasy is that every public educator decides to work strictly according to the contract for one month. No early arrival. No late departure. No work taken home. No lunches skipped. Etc. Then the public would see the extent to which public education is subsidized by us.
